Kwade Droes – Onder De Toren (2019)

The flying Dutchman’s Vrolik varieté

The infectious horse disease Kwade Droes is on another outbreak bringing a wriggling mass of horror and filth. If you heard the last album “De Duivel en zijn gore oude kankermoer” (I like to call it the Vrolik varieté – a hideous parade of mutants) you will no longer be striked confused and unprepared. The intoxicating mixture of doom, blast beat bursts and creepy samples is here again, this time with even more dissociative and incoherent song structures – some of them even sounding improvised. If you thought the vocals wouldn’t get more insane, you’re wrong. “Nek van lood” serves cough of blood and festering pus on the plate. After this banger the instruments seem to hang in the air like a poisonous stench. The doom worshippers especially will dig “In de linge” track. It might not be the first, second or third time you get into this album but repeated spins did it for me. While I do miss bangers like “Drankduivel” or “Misdaad Loont” from the previous album, there are still unforgettable moments like the impressive psychedelic guitar solo in “Dorstige ratten in brak water” or the closing track “Onder de Toren”. What next steps will the band take? As long as it’s atmospheric/experimental and includes blast beats, I’m in. 8/10
