Mercury Ribbon – Cavalry Whips of Bamboo (2019)

Urban ambient for emotional dwellers

If you haven’t come across Janushoved‘s catalog yet, I would definitely recommend this record to start with. After the Mercury Ribbon’s previous material such as “The green nail polish..” or “Obedience” the sound has evolved remarkably – it’s less industrial and much more polished. Consisted of melancholic flow of calm drones and electronic ambiance there are some hints of new age as well. The album manages to move smoothly from urban world-like atmoshere (like PNP or Mansas II track) to open wilderness (Galvanized Dreams or N.R.A.S.). However what you imagine is entirely up to you. For me the track Red Eyes sounded as it was resembling a lab or a data center. It would be interesting to get to know the musician’s insight and ideas that created this wonderful album. 8/10
